JOE ALLEN
The Right Man

The Right Plan!
"The Making of the Candidate!".
I volunteered with the Obama campaigns in Los Angeles and Florida. I worked with others to invite him, all former presidents and the Tuskeegee Airmen to the Key West Truman LittleWhite House in May, 2009. After taking part in the ‘President Barack Obama Inauguration Day Celebration’, I knew what I had to do!
It was my defining moment.

Maybe it's because my middle name is 'Lancelot' - same as the knight in shining armor - but ever since I arrived in Key West 15 years ago, I tried to find ways to help others. First, I became a member of the Board of Directors of Big Brothers and Big Sisters. Then, I volunteered with American Cancer Society's 'Relay for Life' program. I devoted time to 'Toys for Tots', food, clothing and blood drives and many other community activities. I enjoyed my time as an unpaid assistant coach of the girls basketball team at Key West High School.
Monroe County Comm. Mario Di Gennaro
C-SPAN broadcast an interview with me about my political and literary achievements and goals in Dec., 2008. I am a three time political candidate – Key West City Commission once and Monroe County School Board twice. Being involved in local and county races prepared to seek statewide office. I always received a substantial percentage of the votes and many compliments about my innovative platforms.

During my last campaign, I had to undergo surgery on both knees. I am now in great shape and 43 pounds lighter. My family has always been politically active. My father was a precinct worker and my brother worked closely with Former President Jimmy Carter.***
I am a retired teacher with over twenty-five years of experience. I taught many subjects in elementary and high schools in Pa., NY and Ca. My career was cut short by a car accident. I have totally recovered.

I was born in the American base hospital in Trinidad, West Indies and came to America in 1958. This is my 50th year in America - my Golden Anniversary. I want to do something significant to commemorate the event! I know America! I lived in five states – Pa., NY, Vt., Ca. and Fl.I have lived in Key West for 15 years. My father lived in Miami, Fl in the ‘70’s and 80’s. When Mayor Emeritus Wilhelmina Harvey made me an “Honorary Citizen of The Conch Republic/K. W.”, I bought an American flag to fly from the highest point in Monroe County on all national holidays.Former Senator George McGovern
